MTB: Corral Center Mountain Bike Park- Lory State Park- 5/6/2014

First Mountain Bike Post! ... And since it is my first MTB post I'll start small. Here is the Corral Center Mountain Bike Park in Lory State Park, It's right near the entrance and will cost you $7 if you bring your bike in via vehicle or $3 if you make there on a bike.

The weather is beautiful in N. Colorado during the spring so what could be better than as nice day out on two wheels? Here in Fort Collins we are fortunate enough to have this stuff practically in our back yard. If you're getting acquainted with a mountain bike or just wanna have some fun this is a great place to start.

There are three different parts to the area with increasing difficulty: Skills area, pump track, and dirt jumps.

The skills area is definitely where you want to get comfortable, especially if this is your first time doing some actual trail riding. Basic obstacles include structures for balance, turns, small jumps/hops, and loose terrain.

The pump track is a looping track of bumps and rollers where the rider absorbs and compresses the bike without pedaling to make it through the loop. A pretty decent workout!

Here is the dirt jumps at the park. They are divided into three different lines in order of increasing difficulty. If this is your first time hitting the jumps make sure you are aware of what you're doing and start small!

Overall, a great place to hone your skills if you are a beginner or expert. If it's your first time hitting the trails at Lory or if you are used to riding that is a little more tame, then be sure to check this place out before hitting the trails. It's usually never busy!

Date: 7/18/2013
How far we went: 1.4 mi
How long it took us: Didn't keep time
Elevation reached: No GPS
Weather: Sunny

Tanyard Creek Nature Trail is a short looping trail within the town of Belle Vista, Arkansas. We took the 1.4 mile loop. The trail consists of a stream, a bluff, a cascade and a waterfall. The waterfall was very inviting with perfect access to get underneath for a refreshing shower. At the bottom of the cascade there was a pool with at least 4 varieties of fish from small Minnows to Black Carp about 18" long. This trail is definitely worth checking out. It is easily accessible, dog- friendly and packed with features.

Lake Johnson, Raleigh, NC- 3/4/12

Location: Lake Johnson Park, Raleigh, NC
Date: 3/4/2012
How far we went: 2.98mi
How long it took us: 1:00:29
Elevation reached: Started at 406ft and got upto 540ft
Weather: Sunny, breezy, nice

A little stroll around the lake for today's update. If you're looking for some exciting new information about Lake Johnson, there isn't any. They have some paddle boats and some small Jon boats to rent but you honestly won't get very far because this is a tiny lake... Although if you're having a lazy day in the spring and want to eat lunch or just troll around, it will do. They also have small drinks and snacks available for purchase, along with worms if you would like to fish. I spoke to someone and asked him what he usually catches and the only thing he said was "Catfish" and "Yes, I eat them out of the lake." Don't know if that is safe or not but I won't eat anything out of a body of water that is in the middle of the city. I don't care how many trees or vegetation there is around. As with a lot of places I visit, you can hear the steady humming stream of traffic and the park is VERY populated towards the end of the day on weekdays and all day on weekends. If you're close to it, I recommend visiting as it's not bad for a little cross country run/jog. If you're more than 10 miles away though, it is probably is not worth the drive. Pics and videos are from iPhone 4.
